OpenDebt

About OpenDebt

Collection technology built with the people doing the work.

OpenDebt is an Australian technology company serving lenders and collection agencies. We help their teams support more customers through Quality Assurance, Agent Assist and autonomous collection.

Our focus is extending existing capacity. That means helping professionals during their work, making quality easier to review and automating suitable tasks within each client’s systems and rules.

Whispa is now OpenDebt.

Our new name reflects our focus on the collection industry. We remain a technology provider, not a collection agency. Quality Assurance and Agent Assist continue alongside Autonomous Collector; existing customers do not need to move to autonomous collection.

The founders

Credit and collections experience. Production AI engineering.

Norman understands the economics and operations of credit recovery. Jonas builds AI products that have to work reliably in the real world. They founded OpenDebt because collections needs both.

Norman Yan, CEO and co-founder of OpenDebt

Norman Yan

CEO & co-founder

Before OpenDebt, Norman spent seven years leading data and AI work at Westpac, where he helped ship the bank’s first production generative-AI tool. Earlier, in investment banking and at National Credit Management, he worked on distressed-credit portfolio analytics and valued credit-card debt portfolios. OpenDebt brings those threads together: credit, collections and production AI.

Jonas Tischer, CTO and co-founder of OpenDebt

Jonas Tischer

CTO & co-founder

Jonas has built software and engineering teams at ThoughtWorks and Lyrebird Health. At Lyrebird, he worked on AI used in clinical settings, where reliability and careful rollout are part of the product. At OpenDebt, he leads the engineering behind collection conversations, controls, integrations and deployment.

Why we started here

More capacity should mean a better customer experience.

Listening to collection calls showed us how different each customer’s situation can be. Some need a straightforward way to pay. Others need an explanation, time or specialist support. Good teams need the capacity and information to respond appropriately.

We began with QA and Agent Assist, working with customer reviewers and collectors on real calls. Those products still help people do their jobs today. The same quality framework also helps assess our autonomous agents.

Autonomous collection is our next area of growth. Making suitable conversations more affordable opens up accounts that teams cannot economically reach today. We agree the tasks, limits and handoffs with each client, so automation adds to the operation rather than dictating how everyone must work.

How we work

Close to the operation, careful with the rollout.

  1. 01

    Start with the work

We sit with collectors, listen to calls and understand the systems around them before deciding what to build.

  2. 02

    Calibrate together

Your reviewers mark the calls, we mark the same ones, and we work through the differences until the standard is shared.

  3. 03

    Choose the right scope

We agree which capabilities will help your team. Autonomous work starts with supervised calls on a defined segment, with outcomes and controls reviewed before expansion.
